Do You Need A Travel Crib?

If you’re like most people with a baby, you’ll probably travel at some time or another when your baby is still small enough to be in a crib.

Maybe it’s a trip to grandma and grandpa’s house so they can see  how your little baby is growing up.  Or maybe you’ll decide to take a little vacation as a family!  No matter what the cause of your travel, you are likely to need a travel crib at some point.

A travel crib is also sometimes called a playpen or play yard. They are excellent for giving your baby a comfortable and safe place to rest when you’re away from home.  Lots of parents keep a travel crib at grandma and grandpa’s house, or anywhere else they know they’ll be visiting on occasion.

Using a travel crib is not only convenient, because they fold easily for storage, but it’s also a great way to keep your baby safely contained once they begin sitting up, creeping and crawling.  If you can’t attend to your baby while you, say, fill the dishwasher, you can place them in the travel crib with a few safe toys, and know that they’ll be out of harm’s way while you get a few things accomplished!

Of course, it goes without saying that a travel crib should not be used as a permanent crib for your baby, or as a substitute for parental attention.  A travel crib is safe when used for it’s purpose – occasional sleeping or playing in a comfortable environment.

A few accessories you should purchase should your travel crib not come with them are a carrying case to protect it when not being used, and a couple of sheets specifically made for the pad at the bottom of the crib.  These will not be the same size as your standard crib mattress, so you’ll need to purchase these separately.

Many travel cribs offered today come with a baby bassinet that is detachable, and some even have a built-in mobile with lights and nature sounds or classical music!  You can get as many bells and whistles as you’d like, or go with just a simple travel crib for baby’s occasional use.
