A Rocking Chair and an Heirloom

Who doesn’t just love a rocking chair? We have one that has been in my husbands family for decades, and will be handed down to our kids when the time comes. At least six children have been rocked and lulled to sleep in that chair, as well as a few adults I know!
Your baby’s nursery will not be complete without a place to sit and rock him or her, to read them a story, and nurse them or give them their bottle. Few places conjure the wonderful images and memories that a rocking chair does, and it’s for this reason that it should be a part of any nursery.
There are so many rocking chair styles to choose from these days – so many different hardwoods, wicker, even metal and leather, if that’s what you like! Most nursery rocking chairs, though, are made up of some type of hardwood, and have comfortable cushions on the seat and back. Make sure the cushions on your chair are high quality and have removable covers as they will inevitably get spilled on. As an alternative to washable covers, you can always use a soft throw blanket to cover the chair and remove that to wash it every so often.
You’ll be spending a lot of time in your new rocking chair once your little bundle is born, so try out a few in stores first. Get to know and be able to recognize what you are most comfortable in – straight back, curved back, arms or no arms, etc. After you know what you’d like, you can search the internet for the best bargain. As with any nursery furniture, buy the best rocking chair that you can afford, and you will be proud to pass it down to the next generation.
Most important of all – enjoy the time you spend in your rocking chair, holding your baby, watching them sleep, and wondering how you ever got along without them. Remember, they will never be as little as they are right now!
